My Review:

I like the title of this CD, “Come Alive”. It suggests a promise that the listener will be touched. Indeed it did. In general, the lyrics described relatable life struggles followed by reminders of God’s comforting principles and then suggestions on ways to overcome them. So I would recommend this album to those that is open to hear religious teachings. Don’t get me wrong, it did not come across preachy but rather commanding of our power to live life. I'd describe it as upbeat hymns.  Hence, there was overall cheeriness to the softness in the melodies.  I especially liked "Walk You Through The Night".  I haven't gone through this experience but the consoling words reminded me of my tender feelings for my children.

The vocal quality was great.  They harmonized well and I felt the gentleness and passion to the songs they were singing.  I noticed the strength in their range in "How Deep The Father's Love For Us" when there was a split moment of a cappella.  Beautiful.  Simply beautiful.

Altogether, the scope of music was from mellow to catchy tunes.  I liked that the album contained many, if not most, of their original songs (granted, "Walking on Sunshine" is the only one I recognize so I'm assuming here).  I found myself singing and swaying to the music while doing my household chores ..and even in the car!  Just bummed that the lyrics weren't included with the CD.  But I had a good month of listening to the album so I got the chorus parts fairly down.

Overall, this album gives space to good feel music.  The songs contained positive and tranquil outlook that stirred me.  My kind of music!  Thank you, Mercy River.

About Mercy River

With 13 children between them, it’s amazing that Whitney Permann, Brooke Stone, and Soni Muller have time for anything other than runny noses, sock hunts, and prying suckers off the van floor. But music has been a part of each of their lives since childhood, and is now a strong presence in their homes.

The three friends met while singing in the Jenny Phillips Choir and there found a common love for tight harmonies and sharing the gospel through song. Over the past five years, Mercy River has traveled all over the United States and Canada as a highly sought after ensemble, performing for thousands of people while testifying of the Savior. Each member of the group brings several years of experience performing, writing, and directing hundreds of firesides and concerts—as well as recording on dozens of inspirational albums.

Their self-titled debut album was released in May 2008. “Beautiful Dawn,” was released in March of 2010. Their third album, “Higher” was released with rave reviews in February 2012. Mercy River is back with mesmerizing harmonies and upbeat vocal arrangements in “Come Alive

”.
